I saw this YouTube video of two pinays singing a cover of Beyonce’s new song, “If I were a boy.” I said to myself, wow, what great singing but, they’re Filipinos. There is no room for Filipinos in Hollywood nor is there room for Asians, period.
If you look at Dante Basco, who starred as Rufio in “Hook,” he hasn’t really landed any significant lead roles after that movie. He’s hard small parts here and there but nothing huge like a box office hit.
On the other side, the women seem to be more adaptable to the public but at the same time I think they are being exploited for certain types of roles. Such as Geisha, Kung-Fu, or any type of Ninja/martial arts movies. They don’t get to be front and center for movies like High School Musical or Quantum of Solace. When was the last time you saw an Asian playing the lead role for a James Bond movie? Or when was the last time you saw any Asian taking the lead role in a movie that won several Academy awards and Oscars? I haven’t seen that in a long time.
I know Asians are very good for going into pornos though!
